Break-even calculator

Your break-even point is how much you need to sell just to cover your costs: no profit, no loss. Type your costs and price to find yours.

Example numbers to start (example number: Made up to show how the calculator works). The starting numbers are a made-up small business, not real costs. Type your own: they stay on this page and aren't sent anywhere.

Costs that stay about the same however much you sell: rent, salaries, insurance, loan payments.

What a customer pays, on average, each time they buy.

What each sale costs you on its own: the food or product, packaging, the card fee.

To turn the month into a day. Leave it blank to skip.

Break-even

1,334 sales a month

That's $20,010 in sales. Each sale leaves $9.00 toward the fixed costs; every sale past 1,334 is profit.

A day

45 sales

Over 30 days open, rounded up.

  • Money from sales
  • Total costs
  • Fixed costs
  • Break-even: 1,334 sales
  • Loss
  • Profit

How it's worked out

Sales to break even = fixed costs ÷ (price − cost of one sale), rounded up. → $12,000 ÷ ($15.00 − $6.00) = 1,334
